AboutThe term permaculture was coined in 1974 by Bill Molison and David Holmgren, as a contraction of the words permanent and culture, a play on words to evoke in one's imagination the notion true sustainability. From 1978 on Bill put forth his efforts to bring permaculture to the world, in 1981 he was recognized for such efforts with the Right Livelyhood Award (known as an alternative Nobel Peace Prize). Permaculture is a design science and strategy for all humans to live with abundance while regenerating degraded environments. As life designs so should we, creating ever more diverse, complex, resiliant, and beautiful landscapes, industries, technologies and institutions. Biological observations show us that life creates the conditions conducive to more life, it is imperitive that we do the same in the design of human environments. Permaculturepodcast.org is a weekly audio podcast showcasing topics related to permaculture design and regenerative technologies. Further, it is intended to serve as an educational resource and forum for people new to permaculture and add depth and texture to the practices of experienced permaculturalists. The uninhibited mission of permaculturepodcast.org is to maximize the channels of digital media to help make permaculture a household term globally. Dr David Suzuki geneticist, international environmental advocate and Canadian environmental television host explains Why permaculture is so important to the world. "What permaculturists are doing is the most important activity that any group is doing on the planet. We don't know what details of a truly sustainable future are going to be like, but we need options, we need people experimenting in all kinds of ways and permaculturists are one of the critical gangs that are doing that." Manifest this dream by tunning in weekly and sharing ideas in soil and silicon. |
